Compressed between a flood level and the height restrictions of the Small Lot Envelope as prescribed by the City Plan, this design seeks to challenge what is possible on such sites while sticking to the rules. With a northern frontage, spaces are designed to face front to back to maximise the environmental response, and to avoid the usual problem of overlooking the neighbours. Careful coordination of walls and windows allows a private yet flowing result. The robust form of the proposal is a direct response to these factors yet is still distinctly “Queensland”.
